LASSIE GIRL

I once saw a pretty lass
A-riding on her mare,
With her flowered Laura Ashley dress
There was none as sweet or fair.

She sang a soft melody,
So nice, beyond belief.
I would have liked to steal her love,
But I didn’t want to be a thief.

Her braids dangled in the wind,
As she moved across the plain,
And I answered with a tune,
In hope her love to gain:

Refrain:
Blow you winds across the fields,
As if this were the Irish Sea.
Make her sail into my arms,
Bring this lassie girl to me.

She stopped and got off her horse,
Looked back and sweetly smiled.
Like the flowers all surrounding her,
She was so pure and mild.

I fell to my bended knees,
Pledged my troth and bowed my head.
I told her she was the one,
Whom I would hope to wed.

Refrain

Now these times are long time gone,
We share a happy hearth.
Sometimes we sing a melody,
In love and full of mirth:

Refrain:
Blow you winds across the fields,
As if this were the Irish Sea.
You made her sail into my arms,
You brought this lassie girl to me.
